Objectives
For as long as I have been in college, I have always had the thought of going abroad in the back of my mind, but have been hesitant to pursue it. That changed when I began exploring the idea of student teaching in New Zealand. From seeing the beauty of the country, to having the opportunity to teach at the Swanson School, it was an opportunity I knew I couldn't pass up.
Goals
- Cultural goals
- I am interested in learning about and being immersed in a new culture and the Maori tradition and language.
- Looking to develop a greater understanding of the world through another lens.
- Experiencing different ways of life (food, language, daily schedule, activities)
- Professionally
- Expand my knowledge of teaching by being exposed to new and unique ways of education.
- Learn about the Swanson School's "free play" philosophy
- Make connections and appreciate differences between the U.S. and New Zealand education systems
- Ultimately be able to incorporate new teaching styles, lesson plans, and classroom operations into my own teaching.
- Personally
- Experience a lifestyle different from my own.
- Make new friends and colleagues.
- Get the most out of teaching and explore the amazing sights of New Zealand
